Abstract

747,610. Spring suspensions. STRAUSSLER, N. P. S. Aug. 26, 1953 [Aug. 28, 1952; April 7, 1953; May 7, 1953], Nos. 21614/52, 9316/53 and 12721/53. Class 108 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] Relates to motor vehicles (see Group XXXI) in which a half-shaft 30 is driven from a longitudinal shaft 24 and is enclosed in a casing 37 which pivots for suspension purposes about the axis of the shaft 24. During the pivotal movement, relative movement takes place between a sleeve 36 secured to the casing 37 and an outer sleeve 47 secured to the vehicle frame. The exterior of the sleeve 36 and the interior of the sleeve 47 are splined to series of plates 49, 48 respectively, and bonded between each adjacent pair of plates 49, 48 is a rubber ring 50. The rings 50 can be compressively axially stressed by means of a nut 52 threaded on to the sleeve 36. During the pivotal movement of the easing 37 relative to the frame the rings 50 are stressed torsionally. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the outer sleeve 47 is rotatably connected to the frame and carries an upstanding arm. The arms of opposite wheels are interconnected by a link so that one wheel reacts upon the other through two sets of rubber rings 50. In a further modification, Fig. 7, each half axle casing carries a socket 59 and an arcuate lever 62 pivoted to the vehicle frame 64 also carries a socket 61, a compression spring 60 being arranged between each pair of sockets.
