Abstract

302,922. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Anderson, R. G.). Dec. 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Universal couplings.-A universal coupling, particularly applicable for connecting t h e track-wheel 10 of a spring-borne electric &c. locomotive or car to the motor-driven gearwheel 18 mounted on a quill-shaft 19, comprises links 21, movably pivoted together intermediate their ends at 22 and each connected at one end by a pivot 23 to the wheel 18 and at the other end by a floating pivot 24 to the wheel 10. In order to allow tilting as well as lateral motion, the pivots 21 are carried by normally-parallel links 25 having ball joints 25<a> at each end. To secure substantially uniform rotation, each pivot 24 is normally coaxial with the pivot 23 of the opposite link 21. The links 21 are preferably crossed at the pivot 22, which engages blocks 22<a> slidable in guides 21a in the links, or is merely loose therein. Specification 260,227, [Class 80 (iii), Linkwork &c.], is referred to.
