Abstract

400,181. Gas meters. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES, Ltd., 51, Lincoln's Inn Fields, SMITH, E. W., 186, Kennington Park Road, both in London, and GASKIN, R. W. E., 3, Meadow Road, Claygate, Surrey. Feb. 15; 1932, Nos. 4471 and 5445. [Class 54.] The gas flow to the measuring chambers of dry gas meters is controlled by valves e of D-section oscillated about a vertical axis f, Fig. 2, or axes f<1>, f<2> Fig. 6, by adjustable links e<4> connected to the flag-wire arms h<1> which are also connected bv links j<2> to crank arms j<1> on a transverse spindle g. The measuring chambers are formed by circular or rectangular casings a, a<1> having flanged edges a<2> gripping the flexible diaphragms and held together by a band a<3> or clamps a<7>. The valve seatings d are formed on the upper surface of a hollow casing c which is divided below the outer ports d<2> of the seatings by partitions c<1>, c2 into compartments connected by conduits a<4>, a<5> to the measuring chamber. The middle ports d<1> of the seatings communicate with lateral extensions of an outlet pipe g. The measuring chambers and valve mechanism are inserted as a unit into the meter casing b which is formed with inlet and outlet pipes or connections b<2>, b<1>. The counting mechanism is mounted in the casing b and is provided with a slotted crank arm k<1> operated by one of the crankpins of the arms j<1>. In order to obviate tilting of the valves the valve seatings may be circular and, as shown in Fig. 9, may be provided with two sets of oppositely disposed lateral ports l<2> connected to the measuring chambers and middle ports l<1> leading to the outlet pipe. A valve m, Fig. 7, comprising a middle portion substantially semicircular in cross-section and lateral extensions m<1> is oscillated above the valve seating about a central pin n.
