Abstract
188,793. Carter, P. F., and Gallimore, P. H. Aug. 19, 1921. Cans, washing and cleaning.-In apparatus for washing and steaming milk churns either steam and water or steam alone is supplied to the churn, while it is inverted over a steaming-block, by means of a special valve. A port e in the valve casing is connected to the water supply and a port d to the steam supply, the outlet f being attached to a pipe g leading to a jet h in a steaming-block j. The plug c of the valve is bored with a passage l straight through, passages p, q at an angle to this passage, and a smaller hole n containing a tuba n projecting in the direction of the outlet f. A slot r in the back of the plug engages a stud s to limit the turning of the cock in either direction. In the position shown, water passes through the passages l, p while steam is supplied through the tube n; both pass through the pipe g and swill out the churn. Turning the plug righthandedly brings the passages q, l into connection with the ports d, f respectively, thus supplying steam alone, and turning left-handedly closes all the ports. An indicating pointer k fixed to the operating-handle registers with a scale to show the position of the valve.
