Abstract

851,115. Valves. WALKER CROSWELLER & CO. Ltd. Oct. 1, 1956 [Sept. 29, 1955], No. 27677/55. Class 135. A fluid mixing valve comprises a body 1, Fig. 1, containing a cylinder 6 housing a piston 9 whose upper stem 10 is engaged at its upper end in the socket of a spindle 17a by means of a pin 20 permitting relative rotational movement between the spindle and stem. Rotation of the spindle handle 21 raises or lowers the piston 9. The spindle 10 also accommodates a washered seating 14 coacting with a fixed seating 15 to close off the top of the cylinder. The lower stem 11 of the piston carries an annular washer 12 for sealing engagement with the enlarged bore 7 of the inlet passage 4. The other inlet passage 5 leads to a chamber 8 into which the upper end of the cylinder opens. Two outlet passages 22, 23 open from the cylinder and connect with passages 26, 27 in the spout 25. Hot water or steam is fed through the passage 4 and cold water through the passage 5. The distance between the washers 12 and 14 is so arranged that on opening the valve the washer 14 clears the seating 15 to allow cold water to flow in advance of the washer 12 permitting hot water or steam to pass through. The passages 37, 38 in the union 35 are kidney shaped to permit relative rotational adjustment of the union for installational purposes. The union may be provided with a pin engaging in a kidney-shaped slot in the base of the pillar to ensure that a predetermined union passage registers with a specific pillar passage. The nozzle 29 at the end of the spout is detachable. In another embodiment a single post is provided in the cylinder wall communicating with a spout having a single passage. Separate supply pipes are permanently secured within each inlet passage 4 and 5. Specification 696,366 is referred to.
