Abstract
1,109,491. Valves. WALKER CROSWELLER & CO. Ltd. 10 May, 1965 [8 May, 1964], No. 19361/64. Heading F2V. In a mixing valve, the outlet passage 4 communicates with the hot water inlet 2 via a valve 18, 21 and with the cold water inlet via a passage 20, valve 17 and chamber 19. The valve closure members 17, 18 are formed on a spindle 7b having a threaded connection with the valve body and a splined connection 16 with a second spindle 7a which carries a domed operating knob 6. The second spindle is restrained from axial movement by collar 9 and co-operation of the knob with a shoulder on the housing. In operation, initial rotation of the knob unseats member 17 and allows cold water to flow to the outlet. Further rotation opens the hot water valve 18, 21 and causes a progressive throttling of the cold water supply as a piston 22 on spindle 7b enters passage 20. The skirt 16 may be graduated to indicate the temperature of the liquid discharging from spout 5.
