Volume-regulating valves.-A flow controller is provided with a rotary balanced louvre valve actuated by a pressure differential derived from the main conduit. In the form shown in the Figs. the valve comprises two members 86, 86<a> mounted on a common shaft 19, each member comprising a pair of sectors adapted to control ports 84 formed in the end of guide casings 80 arranged to unite the divided flow in a single stream. The incoming stream is divided by a member 20 having guide surfaces similar in form to those used on Pelton wheel buckets and the valve member and ports are stream lined as far as possible. The pressure differential is produced by Venturi tubes 22, 24 arranged one within the other, the inner one being used for small volumes of flow. The Venturi tubes are connected by pipes controlled by valves 44, 48, 52 with the chambers 34 containing a diaphragm 14 connected by a rod 38 and link 72 with a loading lever 60. This lever, which is connected to the valve by a. link 74, has two sets of graduations to correspond with the two Venturi tubes and is arranged at an angle so that as the diaphragm lifts the moment of the weight 66 slightly increases. In a modification the two rotary sector valves are replaced by a rotary cylindrical valve in which the fluid enters radially through a number of stream lined slits and is deflected to discharge axially from both ends.
