Abstract

473,267. Engine indicators. KADENACY, M., and ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH SECURITIES CO., Ltd. Jan. 11, 1936, No. 1016. [Class 106 (ii)] A device for determining variations in pressure, velocity and direction of flow of fluids in the inlet or exhaust conduits of an internalcombustion engine at different points in each cycle of operations, comprises relatively fixed sleeve elements 1, 2 and a ported shutter 3 rotatable between them. Ports 7, 8 in element 2 are connected by tubes 9, 10 to pressure indicating means such as water or mercury manometers ; ports 11, 12 in element 1 are connected to ducts 13, 14 extending in opposite directions along the sleeve through which the fluid passes, and ports 15, 16 in the shutter 3, driven through a sprocket wheel 4 from the crank-shaft, connect the ducts 13, 14 with the tubes 9, 10 once during each rotation thereof. The sleeve 1, 2 is rotatable in fixed end rings 5 by a lever 19, its angular position being indicated by a pointer 18 rigid therewith coacting with a scale 17 on end ring 5, whereby the pressure &c. at various points in the cycle are obtained. The sleeve 1, 2 includes water passages 20 and ducts 21, 22 for cooling water.
