Abstract

795,586. Rotary meters. SIMMONDS AEROCESSORIES, Ltd. Aug. 17, 1956 [Aug. 19, 1955], No. 23961/55. Class 110 (2). [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVIII] A device for measuring volumetric rate of flow in a non-magnetic pipe comprises a rotor 8 (Fig. 1) mounted on longitudinal bearings in hubs 2, 3, and carrying blades 7 which produce rotation at a speed depending on the rate of fluid flow in the pipe. A permanent magnet 9 has its axis transverse to the tube and as it rotates varies the reluctance of the path through the soft iron polepieces 14, 15 (Fig. 2) mounted in recesses in the pipe. Each recess 10, 11 subtends an angle of about 90 degrees at the axis of the pipe and extends axially a little beyond the rotor in each direction. Specification 786,113, [Group XX], is referred to.
