[Class 7 (ii).] In a decarbonizing device air is drawn into the induction system, first through a chamber 10 containing water or other liquid-e.g. carbon tetrachloride, or a solution of monochlornaphthaline in water -and then through a second chamber 11 containing a decarbonizing substance. The air enters by a tube 22 and chamber 21 which is closed by a block 25 of porous porcelain and contains crystals 29 of a decarbonizing substance, -e.g. silica gel-, through which the air is distributed by a perforated tube 26. The chamber 10 comprises a glass receptacle 13, clamped to a lid 18 by a trough-like support 14 which is detachably and adjustably mounted on a fixture 38. The moistened air passes to the chamber 11 through a hollow support 30 and a valve controlled by a knob 33 ; the chamber 11 has a detachable cap 36 and contains a decarbonizing cartridge 34 of the kind described in Specification 368,513. An air filter may be fitted to the inlet tube 22 and the cartridge 34 may be supported on an inner tubular member which causes the air current to be reversed in passing to a nipple 12 which is connected by a flexible tube to the induction system of the engine. The Provisional Specification describes making the device of sheet metal or the substance known by the Trade Mark " Bakelite."
