Abstract

387,762. Transformers. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Oct. 8, 1931, No. 28008. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1930. [Class 38 (ii).] A transformer for use in circuits in which a high initial potential is applied to the secondary winding, such as a voltage-doubling rectifier circuit or a system of transformers having their secondary windings connected in series, has the side walls 1 of its container made of insulating material and of a height sufficient to insulate against the initial potential. The end V of the winding 8 is connected to the core 4 which is attached to the cover 3, the other terminal U being insulated therefrom by a bushing 9. The lower end of the core is supported on insulating struts 5, 6 and is screened by a metal hood 10 and insulating shields 11, 12. If the cover is of insulating material the bush 9 may be dispensed with, the terminal V, connected to the core, projecting through the insulating side wall of the casing. The winding 8 may be divided into sections and after insulating each section, two sections are brought together and wound with insulating paper strip. Another section is added and the whole again wound with insulation and so on, so that the section at the highest potential has the greatest number of layers of insulation.
