Transformers. - A transformer such as a potential transformer for use on high tension circuits is combined with a bushing insulator 1, the core 3 forming or being connected in parallel with the high tension conductor 4 and passing through the insulator. The primary winding 5 is distributed over the outer surface of the insulator and is connected at one end to the high tension conductor and at the other end to the earthed frame 2 surrounding the insulator. The winding may be divided into parts located on opposite sides of the frame 2, connection between the parts being effected through the conducting inserts usually provided in this type of insulator. The secondary winding 6 is located near the frame 2. A current transformer comprising a ring core 7 carrying a secondary winding 8 may also be associated with the insulator, the core 4 forming the primary winding. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) a closed core passing through two insulators arranged side by side is employed. In this case the primary winding 5 may be distributed over both insulators. Porcelain screens and metallic sheaths may be provided as protection against the weather and corona. The windings may also be immersed in oil or an insulating compound. The insulator 1 may be of the kind used in leading-in to a transformer or switch tanks, or of the kind used in cable end connections or trifurcating boxes.
