Abstract
311,658. Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd., (Assignees of Turok, J. J.). May 11, 1928, [Convention date]. Insulators.-A high-voltage insulator, formed with an upper mounting member 3 and a lower clamp 4 for carrying a conductor 5, is provided with electrostatic field control devices 7, 8 in order to control the formation of flash-over arcs. Each device 7, 8 is of U-section, with thin sides 17 and is formed with crescent or toroidal ends 18 giving extensive end surfaces 26, 27. The devices 7, 8 are each riveted to carrying members 20, Fig. 2, which are constructed to have minimum conducting surface. The lower members 20 are connected to a yoke 15 by screws 23, the upper members 20 having their inner portions close together so as to be secured by screws 24 to the member 3. Where it is desired to prevent the formation of arcs to the metal insulator caps, as along the lines A, Fig. 1, the metal parts at the end of these lines are constructed of reduced area, while the areas presented to each other along the lines B are made relatively extensive. The device is also stated to be applicable) to bushing insulators and to insulators constructed entirely of insulating material.
