Abstract
238,545. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Smith, H. B.). Aug. 14, 1924, [Convention date]. Transformers.-In insusulating devices, in which a conductor passes through an insulated partition con. nected to a conducting body, such as a transformer casing and in which conducting surfaces are arranged, as described in Specification 195,593, to distribute the lines of force so as to diminish the prob. ability of a break-down, the conducting surfaces are connected to the conductor and to the conducting body carrying the partition and are so arranged adjacent to the partition that the lines of force follow the surface of the partition. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the insulating partition 5 forms the cover of a transformer-casing 1. The conductor 14 is a tube enclosing the transformer lead 12 and terminating in electrostatic-stressdistributing members 15, 16. A.nnular conducting members 9, 10, 17, 18 are arranged above and below the partition 5 and in connection with the casing 1 and the conductor 14 respectively. They are so shaped that the lines of force near the partition 5 are nearly parallel thereto and the shortest paths between the conductors 9 and 17 and 10 and 18 are some way from the partition 5. The distance between the members 9 and 17 may be less than that between the mewbers 10 and 18. The conductor 14 may be formed with a condensing bushing. Other surfaces may be arranged below the level of the oil in the casing so as to cause the lines of force within the casing to be nearly parallel to the surface of the oil therein. Specification 213,978 also is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes an arrangement shown in Fig. 4 (Cancelled), in which the insulating partition 29 forms the upper part of the wall of its transformer casing and the conducting surfaces connected to the conductor 14 are formed by the cover 30 of the. casing and coact with the conducting surfaces 32, 34 carried by the wall of the casing. This subject-matter dces not appear in the Specification as accepted.
