Abstract

385,864. Disintegrating- machines for paper pulp preparation. ARNOT, J. M., Novolium Works, Cook Street, Bury. June 15, 1932, No. 16880. [Class 96.] A machine for flocculating dry or moist pulp, paper, cardboard, rags, &c., for the preparation of paper pulp, guncotton, celluloid, cellulose esters, &c., or for granulating cork &c., comprises, in a common enclosed casing connected with a suction fan, a pair of rollers d, Fig. 1, which hold and feed forward the material, and one or more pairs of tearing rollers f having interspaced teeth, the two rollers of each tearing pair rotating at different speeds. The rollers d preferably have blunt intermeshing teeth, and the rollers f comprise toothed or spiked plates spaced by rings or collars and clamped by nuts on a keyed spindle, the teeth on each successive plate being slightly advanced circumferentially. In an example the teeth are ¢-inch deep, <1>/16-inch thick, the pitch is ¥-inch, and the plate spacing “-inch, successive rollers having finer teeth ; the last roller pair may have card clothing &c. with little or no clearance between that of the two rollers. The feeding and upper rollers f rotate at 100 r.p.m. and the lower rollers f at 2000 r.p.m. The frame a is slotted at a<1> for the bearing blocks e of the rollers, and the operation may be stopped at any pair of rolls by a partition plate j in grooves on the frame a, a series of openings k<1> in the floor k being controlled by handles l for doors k<2>. Sheets of pulp or paper may be fed to the machine one or two at a time by bands m, Fig. 10, or pulleys n carried by a frame o pivoted to the frame a and supporting on arms o<1> wheels p having rough rims, pins, or rubber tyres resting on the sheets, the frame o &c. being nearly counterbalanced by a weight q and returned to starting position by a hand-wheel s, a ratchet and pawl t being used. The machine is preferably electrically driven, using chain transmission.
