Abstract

6 0 2,2 4 8. Vegetable-cutting machines. WILLIAMS, J. F. March 8, 1945, No. 5797. [Class 5(i)] A feeding device for a comminuting machine for vegetable matter such as seaweed comprises a moving support constituted by a roller 22 and a feed belt 132, and a swinging frame 50 carrying driven rollers 43, 44, 45 which rest upon, and provide a converging passage for the material, the rollers and feed belt being driven by gears from a cutter shaft 17. The frame 50 is pivoted about the main axle 17 on which is mounted the cutting means which comprises a series of discs 18 on which are mounted blades 19 which co-operate with a fixed blade 20. The blades 19 are staggered with reference to each other, and are shorter than the fixed blades 20. The machine may be portable and the drive shaft may be extended to operate a belt elevator to deposit the shredded matter into heaps. The feed belt 132 may be carried round the roller 22 and a feed belt added round rollers 43, 44, 45. All the rollers may be circumferentially grooved to assist the gripping of the matter.
