Abstract

220,176. Coward, W. H. Aug. 27, 1923. Roller mills.-A machine for crushing or pulverizing stone, ore, &c. comprises a parallel pair of intermeshing fluted or longitudinally-grooved rollers a, b one of which is mounted in fixed bearings e whilst the other is mounted in bearings f slidable towards and away from the first under the influence of a spring q, and a pair of scraper rollers u rotatably mounted parallel with and adapted to engage one with each of the grooved rollers a, b. Each of the rollers a, b may consist of a cylindrical drum i on which are keyed a number of thin toothed rings h of hard steel &c. clamped together by means of longitudinal bolts k and end-plates m. Preferably the end-plates m of one of the rollers are equal in diameter to the maximum diameter of the roller so as to overlap the intermeshing teeth. The teeth or flutes of the rollers are of semicircular section, and the depth to which they mesh is adjusted by means of screw-threaded rods n extending from the bearings f to the ends of the spring-pressed carrier plate p. Each roller u consists of a series of scrapers v extending between end-plates w and adapted to make rubbing contact with the teeth of the rollers a, b. The scraper rollers are rotatably connected together and with the shafts c, d of the rollers a, b by spur or like gearing. The shafts c, d may be connected by gearing r.
