Abstract

518,330. Sifting-apparatus. SIMON-CARVES, Ltd., and DRAYCOTT, F. W. Sept. 8, 1938, No. 26231. [Class 117] In screens of the type comprising a series of transverse rotating shafts a, b, c, d, e carrying staggered discs f, g, h, i, j, the distance between the shafts is simultaneously adjustable so as to vary the screening openings and ensure that all such openings are of uniform size. One of the shafts, c, is mounted in fixed bearings, and the other shafts are mounted in sliding bearings which are adjusted by two intergeared longitudinal shafts o, p, having worms engaging nuts on the bearings. The pitches of the worms and nuts increase by unit amounts from the stationary shaft outwards. The shafts rotate in the same direction being intergeared by jockey sprockets carried on links which fulcrum on the shafts so that gear transmission is maintained during adjustment.
