Fixecl sieves.-Apparatus for screening friable material such as coal and coke comprises a series of fixed screens g, l, n formed of spaced bars threaded on transverse bars and a series of rotating shafts k provided with sets of radial prongs i, m passing upwards between the bars of one screen and transferring the material to that next in succession. The bars of the screen, and the prongs of the rotating members are spaced by washers which may be varied to alter the screening openings, and the screens may be arranged in groups of different mesh. The rotating shafts are intergeared. The device for feeding the charge to the screens comprises a hopper a with a freely suspended baffle plate b, a comb c and rotating prongs d mounted on a shaft e which may be driven from the shaft k at a slower speed. The material is fed on to a plate f which is cut away to permit passage of the prongs d.
