Abstract

385,392. Cartons, cans, &c. HOSKING H. G. W. and SPICER, J. L., 19, New Bridge Street, London. Oct. 30, 1931, No. 30148. [Classes 66 and 125 (iii).] A closure disc 7 of cardboard or the like or of transparent material is held in place either in an annular metal cover holder 1 adapted to be secured to the end of a carton or like container, or over an opening formed in the wall of a metal container, by applying pressure by dies to the upper and under surfaces 4, 6 of a shallow recess in which the disc is placed, to force inwardly the wall of the recess at 8 so as to clamp the disc in position. The edges of the disc may be treated with cement or sealing material. Upper and lower dies suitable for effecting the operation indicated in Fig. 3 are shown in Fig. 5 ; the upper die 14 has a vertically movable rod 15 carrying a disc 18 urged downwardly by a spring 16 and adapted to engage disc 7 and steady it. As the two dies approach to effect the securing operation, the disc 18 engages in a recess 17 in the under face of the die 14. Specification 370,294 is referred to.
