Abstract

683,521. Stoppers. ALUMINUM CO. OF AMERICA. Oct. 29, 1947 [Nov. 27, 1946], No. 28883/47. Class 125(iii). A closure blank for containers, such as bottles or cans, having top and side sealing surfaces, comprises a cap 11 an annular shoulder 14 of which supports a liner 15 and a forming shell 16 the difference in the diameters of a skirt 13 and the side sealing surface being less than twice the thickness of the liner. When the blank is applied to the container the liner 15 is deformed and stretched being pressed and held against the top sealing surface by the top of the shell 16 and against the side sealing surface by a skirt 17: in order to retain the cap in position the skirt 13 may be subsequently shaped to complement a retaining formation e.g. a screw thread, on the container.
