Abstract

906,223. Applying bottles &c. closures. ALUMININUM CO. OF AMERICA. Dec. 15, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 43175/60. Classes 125 (2) and 125 (3). The method of applying a closure cap 21 with a compressible liner 24 to a container neck 12 described in Specification 670,072 is modified by providing the pressing die with a shoulder 32 which first engages the bulge 23 to initially bend the overhanging portion of the cap towards the side sealing surface 13, the compressing of the cap on to the surface 13 being completed by a tapered surface 33. The taper 33 allows for variations in the size of the surface 13 and the thickness of the parts 21, 24. The lower position of the skirt 22 of the cap 21 is engaged with closure-retaining formations such as screw-threads 14 by a spinning disc. The pressure head is reciprocated by a vertical stroke apparatus similar to that described in Specification 234,352.
