Abstract

875,833. Closuring containers. BRITISH XYLONITE CO. Ltd. Feb. 25, 1959 [Feb. 28, 1958], No. 6542/58. Classes 125(2) and 125(3). A method of packaging a container 1 with a liquid 4 which is liable to extract oxygen from the atmosphere comprises forcing a gas, which may be inert, under pressure into the space above the liquid and then closuring the container to maintain the excess pressure therein. A device for introducing the gas and for applying. the closure comprises a bell shaped member 11 with gas inlet 12 and a gasket 13 which seals against the top 2 of the container. A plunger 17 co-operates with a stopper 5, which is loosely applied to the container whilst the gas is being introduced, to force it downwards so that the rim 3 of the container top engages between ribs 6 and 7 on the stopper to seal it in the container. A press down cap 9 for the dispensing nozzle 8 of the stopper is attached to the body by an integral strap 10. Specification 798,069 is referred to.
