Abstract

689,851. Closure caps. METAL CLOSURES, Ltd. March 12, 1951 [June 30, 1950], No. 16448/50. Class 125(iii) A closure blank of thin ductile metal such as aluminium has a flat disc portion 1 carrying a rubber washer 3 in an annular groove 2 in its undersurface, a plain cylindrical flange 5 with bead 6 projecting above the disc 1 and a downwardly projecting annular rib 4. The closure is applied to a jar 7 having beading 8 and vertical pressure is applied to the top of flange 5 by a suitable tool 11 to deform the closure and cause the flange 5 to become of double thickness, the inner thickness 5a of which makes close contact with beading 8 (Fig. 2). The washer 3 is formed in situ by flowing a rubber emulsion into the groove 2.
