Abstract

1309406 Container closures EMBALLAGES COURONNE SA CROWN CORK CO (FRANCE) 19 May 1970 [21 May 1969 11 Sept 1969 23 Dec 1969] 24251/70 Heading B8T A closure cap, e.g. of metal or plastics material, comprises a substantially flat top 12, a substantially cylindrical or flared skirt 13, a connecting zone 15 between the top and skirt, the zone being inclined to the axis of the cap and separated from the skirt, when the latter is flared by a cylindrical portion or an inflection, the axial height h of the zone being at least 1/12th. the minimum diameter of the skirt and the zone being provided with an annular sealing member 16 formed of thermoplastics material by die punching between two circular edges, e.g. by a punch (20), Fig. 7 (not shown), the outer edge of the member remote from the axis of the cap being located within the zone. The sealing member, which is defined as the annular bead of material which seals against a container when the cap is applied thereto, may abut only the side or only the rim of the container neck. The connecting zone may be deformed towards the neck by a plunger (12<SP>11</SP>), Fig. 24 (not shown), mounted in an elastic sleeve (11<SP>11</SP>) which crimps the skirt on to the neck which may be threaded. The skirt may have serrations 14 and the connecting zone may be arcuate or S-shaped in profile before deformation. The top of the cap may be covered with a thin layer of sealing material.
