Abstract

1427145 Caps for containers UNITED GLASS Ltd 4 Sept 1973 [4 Sept 1972] 40965/72 Heading B8T A cap formed from synthetic plastics material comprises a top 1 and a skirt 2 having means, e.g. bead 3 for engagement with retaining means, e.g. bead 5 on a container 4, a metallic disc 6 being disposed within the cap, and the disc having an annular groove 7 at or adjacent its periphery which contains sealing material 8. The disc 6 is preferably of aluminium, aluminium alloy or tin plate desirably lacquered and with a thickness in the range 0À004 to 0À009 inch. The sealing material 8 may be a plastisol or natural or synthetic rubber. The cap may be of the push-on or snap-on type or held by screw thread or lugs. The cap may be of resilient or rigid plastics material, and in the case of a rigid plastics cap, a recess may be provided in the cap to retain the metalli c disc for removal with the cap. The closure is of particular application to a vacuum package.
