Abstract

537,728. Hermetic closures for containers. FARISH, T. G. April 10, 1940, No. 6502. [Class 125 (iii)] To enable jam jars and the like to be employed for bottling fruits each is provided with a dished cap a of tin plate or like material having a flange a<SP>1</SP> at the top of its tapered side and carrying a sealing ring b of rubber. The cap is held in place during heating operations by a spring clamp c with U- shaped ends c' to engage the lip on the jar mouth. After the jar has cooled the clamp can be removed for re-use as the cap is held by air pressure. The central port of the clamp may be dished transversely.
