Abstract
381,498. Stop valves. KARNARTH, K., 8, Ludwig Hauttstrasse, Zweibr³cken, Germany. April 21, 1932, No. 11494. Convention date, April 21, 1931. [Class 135.] In a full-way stop valve, two closure plates are adapted to be drawn away from their seatings by the application of pressure at opposite peripheral parts of the plates by wedge surfaces operating by a sliding action. When the valve spindle 1 shown in Fig. 3 is raised, wedges 9 pivoted to a transverse member 2 mounted on the valve spindle are pressed inwardly by oblique surfaces 10 and in turn co-operate with wedge surfaces 9<1> on the closure plates 5. Simultaneously the wedge 3 on the spindle is withdrawn from projections 12 on the plates 5 and the upper ends of the plates tilt inwards. Further upward movement of the spindle brings the wedge surfaces 5<1>, 6<1> on the plates 5 and on a lower transverse member 6 respectively into contact, and another set of oblique surfaces 19 causes the wedges 9 to force projections 11 on the plates under a flange 4. At the same time, recesses 18 (Fig. 2a) in lugs 16 on the plates 5 register with fixed guides 14. The lugs 16 carry projections 17. A beam fixed to the spindle is guided by lateral ribs on the casing. In this arrangement, the plates are rigidly connected when withdrawn from the conduit. Specification 262,116, [Class 135, Valves &c.], is referred to.
