Abstract

282,318. Blakeborough, R. A., and Mosby, S. W. Oct. 13, 1927. Closure members, sluice.-In a parallel slide sluice or stop valve of the type in which a pair of valve discs c, d are pressed apart against seating surfaces b, b<1> by a spring or springs e, the discs are held together at their upper edges so that the distance A therebetween is slightly less than the distance B between the seating surfaces in order that the interior a' of the valve housing may remain in communication with the inlet passage. The retaining means comprises a plate or member h with downturned edges h<1> and connected to the operating spindle f by a bolt i. The spindle opening h<2>, bolt opening h<3> and the connection g between the spindle and discs are provided with clearance to allow a floating movement so that in either direction of flow the pressure thereof may cause the corresponding valve disc to seat squarely on the outlet face. The lower edges of the discs remain in contact with the seat faces to exert a scraping action.
