Class 135 In a valve of the kind comprising two discs 2, 3 having lugs 15, 16 by which they are raised and lowered by trunnions 17, 18 on a member 19 attached to the valve spindle 20 and also having wedging surfaces 22, 23 coacting with a mushroom-headed reaction member 24 for forcing the discs against their seatings 10 upon the application of downward pressure by the spindle, the trunnions and the wedging surfaces are so situated that they are, in the closed position of the valve, intersected by a plane normal to the spindle and containing diameters of the seatings. The reaction member 24 is carried loosely between projections 14 on the discs and engages an abutment 25 in the closed position of the valve.
