Abstract

379,405. Coating and damping webs. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.- (Brehmer Geb. ; Plagwitz, Leipsic, Germany.) June 4, 1931, No. 16332. [Class 140.] In a machine for binding paper &c. sheets or book signatures by applying adhesive tape, the tape is successively coated on opposite sides by two adhesive-supply devices 17, 18 each comprising a supply tank, an adhesiveapplying roller 20 ; 20a, and a pair of flanged guide rollers, 21, 21a; 22, 22a. A reel 19 of tape is mounted in brackets on the device 17. The reel 19 and the guide rollers 21, 21a of the device 17 are positioned to one side of the roller 20 so that only one edge of the under surface of the tape is coated ; the guide rollers of the device 18 are similarly offset for the opposite edge of the reverse surface. The tape is twisted through 180‹ between the two devices 17, 18. The tape may be already coated with dried adhesive, in which case it is damped with hot or cold water by the devices 17, 18.
