Abstract

444,652. Compound sheet materials; coating webs. SMITH, G., 97, Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, London. Nov. 2, 1934, No. 31520. [Class 140] In apparatus for making compound sheet material of the kind described in Specification 424,871, in which the sheets are united by continuous spaced lines of adhesive applied by a patterned roll fed by an intermediate roll from a pick-up roll, the rolls are geared together. Transparent film from a reel 1 is coated with adhesive from a trough 5 by an adjustable patterned roll 11 fed from a pickup roll 6 by an adjustable plain transfer roll 8. The film of adhesive transferred to the roll 11 is approximately half the thickness of that on the roll 8. Alternatively the adhesive may be applied by a transfer roll (not shown), geared to the patterned roll 11. The rollers are steel. The coated film and card from a roll 2 pass over rubber-covered frictional guide rolls 14 and are united between rubber-covered pressing rolls 3 and gas-heated calendar rolls 4.
