Abstract

504,545. Abrasive belts. DUREX ABRASIVES, Ltd. (Durex Corporation) Oct. 16, 1938, No. 29920. [Class 60] In the manufacture of abrasive belts, abrasive coated sheet material 14 is wound on a roll 13 and is withdrawn therefrom under rollers 15, 19 and over a metal roller 17, to be wound on a roll 21 belt driven by a motor 28. As the material passes over the roller 17, the backing is operated upon by the sharp edge of a steel scoring-disc 41, carried by a bell-crank lever 40 pivoted at 39 to another lever 34 pivoted at 35 to a standard 32, the levers being adjustable by screws 43, 46. A piece 14b of the scored material is then cut, with ends on the bias, from the strip and abrasive and glue are removed along a part 75 by a grinding-wheel 71, the end of the piece 14b lying against a guide 74 ; the wheel 71 is mounted with a driving motor 62 on a bracket 63 pivoted at 65, and adjustable to vary the depth of cut of the wheel 71 by a screw 68. The belt is completed by applying adhesive to the part 75 and pressing the other end thereon, after which the belt may be broken along the scored line or lines into separate belts.
