Abstract

472,314. Wrapping-machines. ROSE, A. G., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Feb. 21, 1936, No. 5222. [Class 94 (i)] The apparatus produces wrappers provided with tearing strips secured thereto, e.g. of the kind described in Specification 437,207. A continuous narrow tearing strip is fed into pre-determined engagement with the web of wrapping material, a wheel applying, by means of its peripheral edge, a strip of adhesive or solvent which may be narrower than the tearing strip. Specification 415,331 also is referred to. As shown, a web 10 of wrapping material is fed from a roll 11 over a spring-pressed roll 13 on to the periphery of a drum 14. A tearing strip 39 is fed from a roll 30 around a guide roll 31, turns through a right-angle into contact with an adhesive applying wheel 32, and passes over a guide roller 35 into contact with the wrapping material as it passes round the pressure roll 13. The wheel 32 is of such dimensions as to deposit a line of adhesive narrower than the tearing strip. The roll 11 is axially adjustable and is provided with flat discs 37 at each side. A heating element 36 ensures adhesion. Slits are formed on each side of the strip by knives 40 carried by a delivery roll 26 and projecting into slots 42 on the drum. A severing device 27 cuts the wrappers along a transverse line.
