Class 16 A tubular book jacket comprises a backing sheet 12 of paper and a sheet 13 of plastic material adhesively secured in face to face relation along spaced zones 14 to form a tubular structure 17 into which a dust cover 18 or other sheets such as the covers of a book may be inserted, the marginal zones 14 being of single thicknesses of the sheets which can be bent over the edges of the dust cover 18 or other sheet. The sheet 13 is preferably transparent and the adhesive used is a heat, pressure or solvent activated adhesive, which may extend over the whole surface of the sheet 13 so as to adhere also to the dust cover 18. The book covers may be inserted into the turned over ends of the tubular structure 17 or such ends turned in over the cover. The zones 14 and the ends may be turned in over the covers, the sections 24 and 25 being cut away to facilitate this. Either sheet 12 or 13 may extend beyond the other. As shown in Fig. 9, a web 40 of adhesive coated plastic material from a web 40 of adhesive coated plastic material from web 41 and a web 43 of paper from a reel 44 are fed over a table 42 under a heated platen 45 double the width of a zone strip 14 to cause the webs to adhere along bands at distances apart corresponding to the width of the jackets, the bands then being cut in half by a guillotine 47. In an alternative arrangement, the webs are secured along the two edges, as by pressure rollers, the webs being guillotined to the required length.
