Abstract

813,599. Rollers. ADDRESSOGRAPHMULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. June 18, 1957 [July 3, 1956], No. 19161/57. Class 42 (2). [Also in Croups XVI and XXIV] A damping roller for a lithographic printing machine has a cover wound spirally thereon substantially for the length of the roller, the cover comprising an absorbent strip and attaching means fastened to the back of said absorbent strip and to said roller, said attaching means being disposed inwardly of the side edges of the absorbent strip to afford marginal portions for the absorbent strip free of said attaching means and which are matted closely together where adjacent convolutes of the absorbent strip abut one another. The cover 50 of molleton material 51 is the shape of an inclined parallelogram and has secured to its underside a doublefaced adhesive strip comprising an intermediate sheet 52 having a coating 53 of adhesive on one side which fastens it to the cover and a similar coating 54 on the other side which fastens it to the roller 48. A masking sheet 55 is superimposed on the coating 54 to protect the adhesive until it is required for use. The adhesive strip has the same length as the sides 60 of the cover 50 but its width is slightly less than that of the cover so that margins E about # inch wide are left on the underside of the cover. When wound spirally on the roller the sides 61 of the cover are aligned with the end faces 70 of the roller and the margins E mat together as at E + E, Fig. 8, so that no rib or crevice is formed at the edges of adjacent coils.
