994,877. Folding and strengthening edges of sheet material. OZONAIR ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Dec. 18, 1961 [Dec. 20, 1960], No. 43813/60. Heading B5K. A hem is made in a long length of material, preferably filter material backed with cotton webbing, by folding an edge of the material on to a strip of double-sided adhesive tape. An apparatus for hemming both edges of a sheet of filter material has a first guide roller 16 under which pass adhesive tapes 19 covered with paper on the faces that come in contact with the roller 16. The tapes are led on to the edges of a web of reinforcing material 15 which is laid on filter material 14 that has its edges turned by guides 26, 27 to overlap the tapes 19 from which the paper covers are removed at a roller 21. Adhesion of the filter material to the tapes is assured by pressure of rollers 28, 29.
