Abstract

A web of elastomeric material such as P.V.C. is pressed on to so as to be temporarily bonded, without the use of adhesive, to a non-stretchable flexible backing strip, passed through a printing-apparatus, and thereafter separated from the backing, thus avoiding image distortion. The backing strip 1 is an endless band guided on rollers 2-13 in a rotary multi-colour machine having two printing couples A, B. The web 14 is guided from a roll 15 to a roll 16, being fed by a driven roller 17 and pressed against the strip by a roller 24. The web is aligned laterally by guides 26A, 26B, 26C, 26D. Rollers 25, 3, 3A are tensioning-rollers.
