912,542. Making cemented pile fabrics. ETABLISSEMENTS L. A. CHAIGNAUD. March 18, 1959 [Nov. 18, 1958; Feb. 9, 1959], No. 9440/59. Class 142 (4). A carded web V is fed by rollers E into a channel F (made of transparent sheets), from which it is drawn by rollers G, H running at a lower speed, so that the web becomes corrugated. A backing S, which has been coated with adhesive, is guided on to one side of the web by endless belts T and fixed plates P. The unattached folds of the web are sheared off to produce cut pile. The rollers H may be closer together than the rollers G and may run more slowly in order to gather the corrugations closer together, and the belts T may run more slowly than the rollers H. An open mesh reinforcing fabric may be interposed between the backing S and the corrugated web, the two being brought into contact before the adhesive is applied; the adhesive passes through the reinforcing fabric to secure it to the backing as well as securing the corrugated web. Backing may be applied to both sides of the corrugated web, which is then cut along its mid-plane to make two fabrics.
