Abstract

459,129. Wrapping-machines; packages. TREDGET, C., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. April 3, 1936, No. 14844/35. [Class 94 (i)] A wrapping-machine is provided with means to secure a tearing strip to the wrapper by the application of a line or lines of adhesive or solvent to the central portion only of the strip, to keep the edges thereof free from adhesive. The wrapping material is fed from a reel 2 and is passed over rollers 3 ... 5 to rollers 6, 7 with a knife 8 and die 9 which form a semicircular slit 16, Fig. 2. A rotating knife 14 co-operates with a fixed knife 15 to sever a wrapper, of the shape shown in Fig. 2, from the web. In order to provide the blank with the tearing strip, a strip 21 of material, which may be similar to that of the web, and may be coloured, is fed from a reel 22 over and under guide rollers 23, 24 having peripheral grooves. A roller 25 rotating in a bath 26 applies solvent or adhesive in a line or lines of less width than that of the strip 21. The strip is next led through a guide 27 of substantially C-cross-section extending almost to the roller 3. At this point the strip is superposed upon the web and is united thereto by being led over a heating element 28. The strip is thus disposed on the wrapper as shown in Fig. 2. In a modification, Fig. 5, the strip may be applied to the wrapper so that, after application, the cuts 16 and the end of the strip may be on a longitudinal edge of the packet instead of at the end.
