Abstract

897,289. Applying adhesive tape. ALBEKO SCHUHMASCHINEN-G.m.b.H. July 15, 1958 [Nov. 9, 1957], No. 22681/58. Class 73 [Also in Group VII] A reinforcing strip is applied to shoe uppers in a machine comprising two motor driven pressing rollers 3, 8, between which the strip and workpiece are fed, and means for operating a knife to sever the strip at the trailing end of the workpiece, the roller 8 being mounted at the free end of a lever 7 which is biased into working position. The reinforcing strip 17 passes round rollers 24, 23, 21 and thence between a retaining roller 19 and a guide rail 18 extending over part of the circumference of roller 8. The workpiece 36 is applied to the outer, adhesive, side of the strip so that their upper edges coincide. When the workpiece is moved manually over guide 18, the consequential movement of strip 17 pivots a lever 20 against its anti-clockwise bias and simultaneously pivots lever 22 until roller 23 presses the strip 17 against roller 8, which thereafter advances the strip to the pressing rollers. As the workpiece emerges from the nip of the pressing rollers, it engages a lever 33, pivots it clockwise and by means of a spring 34, brings the nose 31 of a lever 30 into contact with the under surface of the workpiece. As soon as the rear edge 39 of the workpiece has passed the nose 31 (Fig. 6) lever 30 is pivoted further and raises a knife 37 to cut strip 17. At the same time, an arm 28 of the knife carrying member engages an arm 26 of lever 22 and pivots the latter anti-clockwise to disengage roller 23 from roller 8. As soon as strip 17 has been cut, lever 20 pivots anti-clockwise under its bias and pulls the strip back into the position shown in Fig. 3.
