Abstract
916,401. Tape dispensers. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. March 10, 1961 [March 14, 1960], No. 8817/6 Classes 18 and 94(1). A dispenser for adhesive tape 14 adhering to a backing strip 15 comprises a casing 12 supporting a supply roll 13 of the composite tape, a platen 35 having a free edge 36 over which the strip is sharply bent to separate the tape therefrom and a guide wheel 50 which engages the adhesive side of the tape 14 and guides it away from the casing. The wheel 50 has a serrated edge. In use a lever 28 is pushed down rotating a gear 26 which is arranged to drive a drum 19 which draws the strip 15 sharply over the edge of platen 35. When a suitable length of tape has been dispensed it is grasped and drawn upwards against a cutter 40 mounted on a pivoted member 42 causing this member to rotate and its rearward edge 45 to clamp the composite tape against the platen 35 so that no further tape can be pulled from the dispenser during severing. The lever 28 is provided with drops (not shown) to regulate the length of tape delivered at each stroke of the lever. The stops may be movable to adjust the length.
