Abstract

551,939. Bookbinding; filing papers; apparatus for affixing tapes by adhesives. READ, W. G. July 31, 1942, No. 10766. [Classes 16, 73 and 146 (i)] Sheets are bound in overlapping series by a number of spaced adhesive tapes extending across the stepped edges. A second set of tapes may extend along the opposite faces of the sheets. The machine for applying the tapes at the desired spacing has a bed 15 with a transparent plate 16 covering a master sheet, the reels of tape being mounted above and below the bed. The lower reels 31, 32 are carried by brackets 36 secured to bars 39 sliding on a rod 42 at one end and at the other end secured to guide clips 45 which slide in a slot 44 in the bed 15. The clips 45 are secured to brackets 47 carrying the upper reels 35 and are connected by lazy-tongs 48 to fixed members 49 so that the reels on each side move together. The sheets are assembled on the bed above tapes 33 from the lower reels and are led under tapes 34 from the upper reels and through pressure rolls 18, 19 rotated by a wheel 28, hand or power-driven.
