Abstract

212,394. May, A. R. Jan. 15, 1923. Book-binding.-In binding manifolding, music, letterpress, and other books, pads, &c., and in filing papers by binding them adhesively together so that sheets may be added sub. sequently, the sheets are prepared with a central narrow strip d, Figs. 3 and 4, of adhesive such as glue, gum, or rubber solution and, when the adhesive is dry, are folded parallel to the strip along the side of the strip as shown in Fig. 3, or at the centre of the strip. The single folded sheets are collated and are bound together by applying moisture, volatile spirit, or heat, according to the adhesive used, to the backs b, Fig. 4, of the sheets so that the sheets adhere together along the adhesive strips. Paper, fabric, or other pliable material, which may carry the applied moisture or spirit, may be applied to the backs of the sheets before the application of an outer cover. The applied moisture may contain potas sium bichromate or the like in order to render the adhesive unaffected by damp after it has been dried under exposure to light. The moisture may be applied in the form of gum or glue.
