Abstract

375,440. Pivoted-sliding windows ; weather excluders. McINTOSH, H., 178, Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Canada. March 30, 1931, No. 9607. [Class 20 (iii).] Relates to windows of the type in which the sash frame is pivotally mounted at the lower ends of bars which slide within the window frame, and in which interengaging sheet-metal weather strips are provided along the adjacent edges of the sash frame and bars. According to the invention, each weather strip on either the sash frame or on the sliding bars has a free edge doubled over to form a U-shaped resilient flange, the outer surface of the inwardly bent arm of which engages with the weather strip carried by the other part of the frame. In one construction, each sliding bar 6, Figs. 2 and 3, is enclosed within a sheet-metal sheath which is bent as shown to provide a U-shaped pocket 8. This pocket is adapted to receive a weather strip 9 carried by the sash frame 4, the free end of the strip being doubled over to provide a resilient flange. The frame 4 is locked, in its closed position, to one bar 6 by a sliding bolt 7. In a modification, the free edge 11a, Fig. 5, of the sheath 11 is doubled over to form a resilient flange 14a with which engages a substantially flat strip 9a secured to the sash frame 4.
