[Class 20 (iii).] The co-operating guide members of a sliding window make contact through the medium of one or more relatively narrow ribs provided upon one of the said parts. In one construction, the sash frame 2, Fig. 3, of a vehicle window is made of sheet metal and is formed on opposite sides with ribs 4 which contact with the guide channel 3 of the fixed window frame. The channel may be composed of a hard metal such as steel or, as shown, may mainly consist of aluminium having hard wearing strips 5, 5a arranged in the manner described in Specification 386,504. In one modification, the edge of the sash frame is also formed with a rib which contacts with the strip 5. In another modification, shown in Fig. 8, the sash frame is of normal channel section and ribs 7 are provided on the window frame 3. In a further modification, the sash frame is shaped to form a channel 10, Fig. 9, which contacts with laterally extending ribs 9 of a fixed guide bar 8. The invention is applicable to windows having rack-and-pawl holding devices, one bearing rib being provided on the sash frame and pressed into contact with the fixed bearing strip by a spring device such as is described in Specification 374,129.
