Abstract

374,335. Loud speakers. THORNTON, A. A., 7, Essex Street, Strand, London. -(Magnavox Co. ; Oakland, California, U.S.A.) Aug. 24, 1931, No. 23822. [Class 40 (iv).] The coil 14 attached to the diaphragm 15 of a moving-coil loudspeaker is substantially longer than the depth of the annular air gap in the magnetic field in which the coil is located. Thus the end portions of the coil are always outside the influence of the field, and a uniform number of turns in the coil is maintained in the magnetic field as the coil vibrates. With this arrangement, the impedance remains constant, and lowfrequency response is improved. In the construction shown, the coil 14 is centred by a support 16 in the annular gap between the central pole 12 and the surrounding pole 11 of a pot magnet. The end of the inner pole 12 is formed as a disc-like member of the same thickness as the plate 11, though this detail is not shown in the Figure. The ends of the coil are brought along the support 16 to terminals 18, 19.
