Magnetic instruments.- A moving-coil loud-speaker in which the diaphragm is large compared with the cross-sectional area of the moving coil, has a secondary winding c coupled inductively to the moving coil b and shunted by a variable resistance d, the number of turns of the secondary winding c being such that by adjusting the variable resistance d a control of the volume of sound produced by the loud speaker is obtained without distortion. The coils c, b, may be wound on the same former e and the constant magnetic field is supplied by the field coil a. The coil c may have ten to thirty turns of wire and the resistance d may be variable up to 1000 ohms. Specification 263,172 is referred to.
