779,156. Sound reproducing circuits. LONGLAND, W. J. L. May 13, 1955 [May 13, 1954], No. 14034/54. Class 40 (4). In a control device for use with apparatus including a loud-speaker the secondary winding of the output transformer of the apparatus is permanently connected to an output connection for feeding one or more earphones or other sound reproducing devices and is also connected to a switch which in one position connects the said secondary winding to the loud-speaker and in another position disconnects the loudspeaker and connects a dummy load to the secondary winding in its stead. As shown in Fig. 4, the output transformer secondary has one end wired to the loud-speaker 21 and to terminal 13a and the other end to terminal 12a. The other end of the loud-speaker speech coil is wired to terminal 14a, and terminal 15a is grounded. The control device, Fig. 3, has its leads 12, 13, 14, 15 wired to terminals 12a, 13a, 14a, 15a respectively, so that in the position of switch 4 shown in the Figure, terminals 12a and 14a are looped to connect up the loudspeaker, and secondary 20 is also extended to transformer 7 and thence via tone control 6, 8 and volume control 5, 18 to the output terminals 10 serving the earphones or the like (not shown). The screen 22 of transformer 7 is grounded over lead 15. Operation of switch 4 disconnects the loud-speaker 21 and connects up the dummy 9 in its stead. The earphone connected to terminals 10 may be used by a deaf person to listen to the sound programme of the apparatus, the loud-speaker being. disconnected if desired.
