Abstract

373,647. Oil engines. HILL DIESEL ENGINE CO., 238, Mill Street, Lansing, Michigan, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Hill, H. D.; 238, Mill Street, Lansing, Michigan, U.S.A.) Feb. 16, 1931, No. 4905. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1930. [Class 7 (iii).] Liquid fuel is injected by a cam-actuated pump into a precombustion chamber F, arranged obliquely in the cylinder head so that the fuel penetrates without commingling with the air in the outer part of the chamber and commingles with and is ignited by the compressed air at the outlet G<2> of the chamber. The chamber has a length approximately twice its diameter and a volume equal to the clearance volume of the combustion space. The fuel is drawn from a fuel reservoir S, past a metering valve S<1>, controlled by hand or by a governor, to a pump barrel Q<1>, and is forced by the plunger Q past a delivery valve T, a filter M and a valve K to a fuel nozzle which is formed by an aperture in a disc 1.
